Sculptural piece that fuses artisanal processes with digital aesthetics.

The manufacturing process is highly artisanal, making each piece truly unique:

1. It all begins by cutting the front profile of the piece out of several expanded polystyrene sheets. These sheets are then stacked and glued together, creating volume and resulting in a full-scale model of the piece.

2. Once at the foundry, the model is buried in a box filled with a mixture of sand, earth, and binder that acts as the mold formwork.

3. Near the end, tubes are inserted through which the aluminum is poured.

4. The aluminum ingots, the main raw material for this process, are melted at 700°C.

5. In liquid form, the molten aluminum is poured over the model inside the box.

6. The expanded polystyrene dissolves as the aluminum takes its place, occupying the volume that the model previously held.

7. Once the aluminum solidifies, the final piece is unearthed, revealing on its surface the texture of the lost mold.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

STEP 1
It all begins by cutting the front profile of the piece out of several expanded polystyrene (EPS) sheets. Then, these sheets are stacked and glued together, creating volume and resulting in the full-scale model of the piece.

STEP 2
Once at the foundry, the model is buried in a flask with a mixture of sand, dirt, and binder, which act as the formwork.

STEP 3
Nearing the end of the prep, the tubes through which the aluminum will be poured are inserted.

STEP 4
The flask is completely filled and packed with the sand mixture to tightly secure the tubes and the model in place.

STEP 5
Aluminum ingots, the primary raw material for this process, are melted down at 700 °C.

STEP 6
Once in a liquid state, the molten aluminum is poured over the model inside the flask.

STEP 7
The expanded polystyrene is vaporized by the molten aluminum, which simultaneously occupies the exact volume previously held by the model.

STEP 8
Once the aluminum has solidified, the final piece is unearthed, revealing the texture of the lost foam mold on its surface.
